Not your father's root beer

image.jpg

It's the biggest selling alcoholic item since Mike's hard lemonade. It sells more pallets a week than Bud or Miller. If you haven't had one yet there's a good possibility that you're dead, or just can't seem to find it. Grabbed off shelves as fast as it's put up. Brewed by Smalltown brewery at first but now contracted out and produced by the place where fourloko is made. I shouldn't have to tell you this tastes exactly like root beer, except after a few of these you may start to feel a little funny thanks to a 5.9% abv. Little did you know they also make a 19.5% abv version that goes into a nice 22oz bottle. Personally, I can only handle the sweetness of just one of these but by no means is it a bad root beer. However, the snob in me that I hate to whip out must tell you; this is not beer and it is certainly not craft beer. Nothing produced on a scale of its size can be considered craft. That being said, none of that information should stop you from imbibing this beverage. To each their own. Now go get drunk. Cheers!

New Belgium - Hop Tart

image.jpg

More of these please. Much like one of my favorite beers (evil twin's sour bikini) this is a sour ipa. Very much on the session end too even though the hops are very present. Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy and Experimental Hop 522 dry-hopping with lactobacillus for souring. Nice malt profile as well. Juicy but not too much. And a great amount of tangy sour like a granny Smith Apple. This and all of New Belgium's sour beers are incredible. I can't wait to see what they keep cranking out. Only downside here? Draft only! Good luck as this beer is surely one to try. Cheers!

Born Free

Born Free 7. Sturgis of the west coast, but without all the baggers and Kid Rock-esque bands playing with Bud Light/MTV sponsored banners on stage. A weekend where riders from all over the country ride to Irvine, CA on bikes both old and new, American or foreign, to convene and live out a weekend embracing the biker lifestyle.

Whether you live East Coast or West, North or South, I would highly recommend checking out this show. I spent a week last June, although unable to go, following a few riders make their way across the US. One in particular was Mikey Arnold (IG @mikeyrevolt) as he rode from Cleveland out to Cali, documenting the entire trip through his camera lens. Absolutely awe inspiring pics, from the canyons of Utah, the mountains of Colorado, or being stuck camping out with a burnt out exhaust, it is plenty to make you want to get up and just go.

There is nothing that I love more about riding than the sense of brotherhood that comes with two wheels and an engine, and if anything, Born Free is proof of that. So take the opportunity to check out the show here, or make your way out to the west coast for 2 days of rubbing shoulders with fellow brother and sisters.

Ride safe

Tyler Fernengel's Silverdome Session

image.jpg

Mad props to Red Bull Detroit for doing what myself and I know others, have wanted to do since we were kids: To Ride the Silver Dome! For those who who don't know, the Silver Dome is the old Detroit Lions Stadium. Every time I came to the SD growing up, I couldn't help but size up every wall, stairs or rails in a Tony Hawk Pro Skater kind of way. Always imagining that I could actually land all of these tricks without totally killing myself. Now years after the dome has retired. Red Bull chose one special kid to fullfill my childhood dream. This lucky duck is a local Detroit BMX rider is named Tyler Fernengel

Again mad props to everyone involved. We are full of envy and we are definitely "Not" going to break in as soon as possible to ride it for ourselves! Check the video out here !

Pax Vaporizer

This is by far one of the best vaporizers I've ever used..... I would consider this the Apple version of vaporizers. Pax even has a weight to it, that makes you know that it's quality. The way you turn Pax on is by pushing the mouth piece in and it heats up in seconds being ready to use! You load the herb on the bottom of the device that has a magnetic cover. Its super easy to clean as well!!! I'd recommend grinding your weed up pretty well to achieve optimal rips. You will love this vaporizer to death. We have these bad boys in stock 24/7 at The Jungle Room (@jungleroomdetroit).

Come by and i'll set you up!!! Love. -Colin

5 before '15!

'Sup turds!

Welcome to my corner of the Vile world! It's only a couple days until this year is officially friggin dead, and instead of wasting your life with a buttload of shit you already read about on some other spoon-feeding music blog, I'm gonna do you something better. I'm gonna give you 5 releases that I really think went unsung this year, in spite of how fucking incredible they are. A couple LPs, a couple EPs- nothing too overwhelming, I swear.  :)

 +PEACE'D OUT- S/T EP+

For fans of: Spitfire, Every Time I Die, Fear Before the March of Flames

You'll ask me why, and I'll say two words: Steve Choi. If ya didn't know already, this dude plays guitar in The Sound of Animals Fighting and RX(FREAKING)Bandits! His guitar sound is totally surprising, yet right at home, on this 5 track masterpiece. Technical and heavy as fuck, topped with incredible vocals that get melodic at the perfect time.

Hear it on spotify

buy it from siren records

Favorite tracks:  Castlemania(see video above), Cha-Chang-Chang-Chainmail

+LIFE IN VACUUM- 5+

For Fans of: Fugazi, At the Drive In, BearVsShark

This band is so good and they work way too fucking hard to not be blowing the fuck up right now. They comprise of two ukranian brothers + a bassist, and they're based out of friggin Canada. Crack open a barley pop and try not to crack your head open jammin' on these ten fucking bangers!

Hear it on spotify,

buy it on bandcamp.

Favorite tracks: I Don't Fit(see video above), You Did It To Yourself

+WAYNE SZALINSKI- BLACK MIRROR+

For fans of: TTNG, Tiger's Jaw, As Tall As Lions

These guys are very close friends of mine, and every time they put something out I lose my shit. This album is designed with the sole purpose of making people touch eachother(or at least REALLY wish they were!). Everything is gorgeous. The guitars are melodic and just technical enough. Andy Milad's voice sounds like the angel of fucking sex, and the rhythm section is the perfect surface for all of it ("it"=sex) to happen on. Nick Galli Has seriously become one of my favorite drummers and I'm so proud of these boys.

Hear it on spotify

Buy it at bandcamp

Favorite Tracks: Sweetness(see above video), Bandages

+PAUL CHERRY- ON TOP+

For fans of: Jay Reatard, Ty Segall,  The Beach Boys

FUN FACT: Paul used to be in a band with half of the dudes in Wayne Szalinski once, and that's how I know him/them(cool story, bruh!). Anyway, this is my favorite thing Paul has done. It's so carefree and fun, making it absolutely perfect for gettin BLAZEDDDD. It also gets to levels of sexiness(ie: "Hey Girl") that rival his homies in WS, and I may or may not have touched myself to it a couple of times(tee hee!).

Hear it on Spotify

Buy it on bandcamp

Favorite tracks: Everybody's Burnin' Out(see above video), Hey There, Brother

+2194- DEAD PEASANT+

For Fans of: Norma Jean, Thursday, At the Drive In

image.jpg

This two piece workhorse used to be based out of MI, but they moved out to Minot, ND. I miss them a lot.  Tim is a fucking post-hardcore guitar wizard and Matt is a goddamn machine. I cannot wait to see what's next from these fellas. Be sure to look for these guys, they live to tour and they fucking kill it live!

Hear and buy it on bandcamp

Favorite tracks: The Light Controller, Dead Drums Beat

Thanks for the read, guys. I'll be back with more music next year!

Follow "vilecompany" on spotify to catch my 2014 playlist, and other playlists in the future.

Love you all, and don't forget to keep it VILE!

How to get legal!!!

I always get asked, "how do I become legal?" Well, its a lot easier than it seems. You just have to have a acceptable reason and documentation to back it up. What are acceptable reasons you ask.... There are a number of things that get approved. The obvious being cancer. Marijuana has helped a fuck ton in the cancer field and continues to make breakthroughs every month. Everything from helping patients get through chemo to even rebuilding white blood cells. But, that isn't the only symptom that gets approved. Pain, asthma, depression, epilepsy, glaucoma, insomnia and even patients in need of an appetite inducer can get approved. There are plenty of clinics that have physicians on staff that can give you a consultation. If you don't get approved, he or she will point you in the right direction so you know how to get approved. Most physicians can do self evaluations as well. So, if you don't have medical or prescription background paperwork, its Ok. They will be able to approve you on site. If you have any questions at all, feel free to hit up my facebook page. Have a smokey week! Peace! -Colin

Music Mondays: Detroit The Album

So last week I had the pleasure, to lay down a few guitar tracks on the recent project from Vile friend Derek John . DETROIT THE ALBUM  is the first of its kind. Here's the scoop: 40 Musicians 10 Groups and 10 original songs all in one album. Each group is comprised of elite members of the Detroit music community thus making up 10 different super groups if you will. As much as these songs are not my personal cup of tea to record, it was still fun stepping out of my comfort zone along with 39 other musicians stepping out of their boxes as well. The end result is an exceptionally mixed variety of music with different feels and genres. So take a second and head over to their BandCamp. The album was just released this past weekend! So let us know what you think! Comment Like or share below and help spread the word!

POSI DETROIT: DANI FAHS ON : OMNICORP DETROIT

Lasers. How fucking cool are lasers? Or what about wooden, floatable glasses? Or handmade industrial furniture? These are just a few of the really rad things being produced in an Eastern Market located industrial shop named OMNICOPRDETROIT

OCD is what is called a ‘hackerspace’, housing 10+ local “makers / entrepreneurs / doers / thinkers / creators / artists / designers / engineers / musicians and others who come together in a repurposed industrial building in Eastern Market to work on projects, learn and share together”. Every 1st and 3rd thursday of the month come check out what they’re creating and you can even bring your own project to “hack”.

During September of last year, I was fortunate enough to get a tour of their space and meet some of the members during Eastern Market After Dark. Since we’re creators ourselves, we love seeing spots like OCD in the community supporting the same values and creativity.

If you’ve got ideas for some really awesome shit, set a date and get to their space for an Open Hack Night. Lets see what you're made of, Detroit! -Dani Fahs
